Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless technology used to install underground utilities while minimizing surface disruption. This method employs specialized equipment, including drill rigs, drilling fluids and various downhole tools. Common downhole tools consist of a housing sonde with a transmitter, a shoe bit equipped with an adapter and carbide buttons, a swivel pullback, a back reamer and the utility product itself, such as piping.
