Housing sondes are vital components in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) that provide precise location and tracking of the drill head during underground drilling operations. These compact, durable devices emit electromagnetic signals detectable by surface locating equipment, enabling operators to monitor the drill’s position, depth, and orientation in real time. Accurate tracking is essential to ensure the drill path stays within design parameters, avoids underground utilities, and achieves a successful bore.
HDD housing sondes are typically installed inside the drill head or reamer housing, protected by a robust outer casing that withstands the harsh drilling environment, including high pressure, abrasion, and moisture exposure.
We provide housing sondes equipped with a Box-to-Box connection, offering greater flexibility in tooling selection tailored to varying soil conditions. Constructed from heat-treated alloy steel, these housings feature an outer body enhanced with laser cladding to deliver superior wear resistance.
Inside the housing, the sonde is securely positioned within a nylon tube using specialized adaptors. This configuration provides additional cushioning and protection,significantly extending the sonde’s operational life in demanding drilling environments.
